Original marbled acrylic on paper

Size 210mm x 210mm

Marbling is a tradition of floating colours onto Irish carrageenan ( powdered seaweed) mixed with water. This makes the water thick enabling paint to be skilfully manipulated and moved on the surface. There is a time limit before the paint starts to lose its density - during which paper or card can be laid gently onto the surface allowing the paint to be transferred to it.

After this the carrageenan is washed off and the marbled piece allowed to dry.

Each piece is unique.
