Herefordshire Art Week is a nine day art trail, for arists, craftmakers and creative businesses to open studios, galleries and group exhibitions to raise their profile and sell artwork. Join us at blue-ginger when lots of our exhibitors will be available to demonstrate and chat with you about their creative process. Take a look at our h.Art page to see who is available and when.

AN EVENING WITH JACKIE MORRIS

talk and simple supper

September 9

from 6:30pm

 

An evening with Jackie Morris reading from 'Mrs Noah's Pockets’.She’ll be talking about her inspiration for the book. A selection of Jackie’s books are for sale in the gallery and she’ll be happy to sign copies and write dedications.

 

Tickets can be booked through blue-ginger gallery with a minimum donation of £10. All proceeds from the evening go to Acorns Children’s Hospice.

 

BATIK WORKSHOP

with Marie Therese King

September 11

10:30am - 3:00pm

£65 including all materials and frame

 

Explore the magical wax resist technique of Batik, with local artist Marie Therese King, known for her patience and encouragement everyone is welcome from absolute beginners to those with some artistic experience.

 

Workshop runs from 10 - 3pm bring an apron, a packed lunch or treat yourself to one of Sue's delicious savoury muffins. We will be in the marquee so wear suitable clothes.

SMALL ART FOR ACORNS

August 20 - September 24

 

Every year artists and some of our creative customers and followers generously donate a small piece of their artwork. Photos of the donated work appear on the blue-ginger gallery facebook page, or you can see it if you visit the gallery.

 

The exhibition runs from 20 August - 24 September, with more small magical pieces of donated artwork being added day by day as they arrive.They'll also be on show during Herefordshire Art week. (9 - 17 September ).

 

Bidding (in the gallery and on facebook) starts from 20 August. Final live auction in blue-ginger gallery is on Sunday September 24 starting at 2pm.

 

All the proceeds of the auction will go to ACORNS CHILDRENS' HOSPICE in Worcester.

 

FAQ's:

HOW DO I BID ?

1. You need a secret bidder number. E mail sue@blue-ginger.com or message her to ask for one. It will be the letter B followed by your personal number. ( B = bidder)

2. Every time you want to place a bid you need to contact Sue, either by message or by e mail. She will then add your bid to the picture.

3. Each picture in the auction will have a number preceeded by the letter A. ( A = Artist)

 

CAN I TAKE PART FROM OUTSIDE THE UK?

Yes you can. If you are successful payment must be made in £ sterling through PayPal.

 

I'M AN ARTIST - CAN I DONATE TO THE AUCTION?

Yes! Please do! Send something small ( no larger than a postcard ) but it can be in any medium and 2D or 3D. And it must be original artwork.

ILLUSTRATING WONDERLAND AND LOOKING-GLASS

with John Vernon Lord and Mark Richards

John Vernon Lord gives an illustrated talk and discussion with an introduction by Mark Richards.

 

John Vernon Lord was born in Derbyshire. He is an author, illustrator and teacher. His children's books have been published widely and translated into many languages. His picture book The Giant Jam Sandwich has become a classic, having been in print for forty-five years. His illustrations for The Nonsense Verse of Edward Lear and Aesop’s Fables both won national prizes. The latter won the W.H. Smith/V&A Illustration Award in 1990. He has also illustrated books of poetry, myths, legends, sagas and epics. Recently he has illustrated Ulysses and Finnegans Wake by James Joyce for the Folio Society. He has also had a career in education having been head of various departments and schools during his 56 years teaching at Brighton. He was Professor of Illustration at the University of Brighton 1986-99, where he is now Professor Emeritus. He was the chair of the Graphic Design Board of the Council for National Academic Awards 1981-84.

NEEDLEFELT A DORMOUSE IN A TEACUP

As part of the Alice in Wonderland exhibition, I'll be running a needle felt a dormouse in a tea cup workshop. Price includes refreshments and all materials. I'll bring some old teacups or you can bring your own, or even get one of the ones specially made for the exhibiton and Mad Hatter's tea party! Gallery provide a delicious lunch or you can bring a packed lunch.
